American Classics: Trail of Tears
The PCSO continues the presentation of the dynamic works of composer Michael Daugherty, whose Fire & Blood concerto captivated PCSO audiences. From November 1838 to March 1839, tens of thousands of native Americans, with scant clothing and many without shoes, were forced to make a 800-mile march for relocation in Oklahoma during the bitter cold of winter. Suffering from exposure, disease, and starvation, nearly thousands died during the five-month march known as the "Trail of Tears." Michael Daugherty's poignant concerto is brought to life by the extraordinary flutist Molly Barth.
