Featuring the highly acclaimed tenor soloist Nicholas Phan as the Evangelist, Bach’s sacred masterwork, St. John Passion conveys heated drama and striking emotional power. This captivating work depicts Christ’s crucifixion and the events that preceded it, and was originally composed for Bach’s first Good Friday in Leipzig. It also marks the start of Maestro Rilling’s 45-year exploration of Bach’s most poignant statements of faith, as the first sacred masterwork that he conducted at the Oregon Bach Festival.
