Flute professor Molly Barth makes her solo recital debut at Blair with a wide-ranging program including works by W. F. Bach, Johannes Brahms, Michael Fiday, David Lang, Blair musicology professor Russell Platt, and Zhou Tian. Barth will be accompanied by faculty colleagues including the Blair String Quartet, pianist Amy Dorfman, percussionist Ji Hye Jung, and oboist Jared Hauser. Fiday, who is on the composition faculty at the Cincinnati Conservatory, will be working with Blair composition students while he visits campus for this performance. The Zohn Collective presents Comala

The Zohn Collective presents Comala

Location: LaBar Performance Hall

A collective of renowned new music specialists led by director Tim Weiss comes to campus to perform Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon's scenic cantata Comala. Based on the classic Mexican novel Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo, Comala was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in music. The composer will be on campus to give a talk on his music. The program also includes two works by Notre Dame faculty member John Liberatore.

ALIAS Winter Concert 2019 – Novel Noise

This concert will feature the talents and sounds of Nashville, and the programming will challenge preconceived notions of what defines “classical music.” Artistic Director Alicia Enstrom has curated a roster of local composers, each of whom will contribute an original work to the evening of music. Composers include: Cristina Spinei, Stephen Lamb, Timbre Cierpke, Jordan Lehning, Matt Walker, Peter Bradley Adams, Dabney Morris, and Bruce Dudley. Vox Grata Women’s Choir will join ALIAS as a guest performer on this concert.

The Blair Woodwind Quintet presents a spring concert that is sure to enchant and delight. French composer George Onslow’s Quintet is a masterpiece of melodic invention from the romantic era, while Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties are toe-tapping settings of sailors’ work songs. The ensemble also presents American composer John Harbison’s 1978 quintet, one of the most virtuosic and exciting works in the repertoire.
